The Secrets Behind Sculptural Florals That Feel Like Art

For couples seeking something extraordinary — two visionary florists share the secrets to transforming your wedding flowers into sculptural art.

When envisioning a sculptural display at your wedding or event, it does not simply appear. It is imagined, sketched, refined, and finally brought to life as a full installation.  With Jungle Utopia, florals take on a sculptural wildness, from gravity-defying green towers to bold, textural statements that transform a space into living art. I Am Flower is known for bold, theatrical installations, where florals are layered with scale and drama to create immersive, ceremony and reception settings. We asked these visionary creatives what elevates sculptural design and how couples can bring artistry, emotion and spectacle to their wedding flowers.

“Every space carries its own rhythm and energy, and we begin by listening closely to the architecture, the light, the season, and above all, to the people the space is meant to serve.”

Listening to Space

For IAmFlower, every commission begins with sensitivity. “Every space carries its own rhythm and energy, and we begin by listening closely to the architecture, the light, the season, and above all, to the people the space is meant to serve.” From there, flowers move beyond arrangement to shape atmosphere. “We don’t rely on a single material but seek those with character, whether delicate or bold. Like a composer selecting notes, each bloom is chosen to create harmony unique to the event.”

Start with Feeling, Build with Precision

When couples or planners ask for something immersive, the advice is always to start with mood. IAmFlower: “What do you want to awaken; stillness, wonder, joy? Let that guide the design. Often the most powerful moments arise from subtle gestures that transform how a space is felt.”

For Jungle Utopia, instinct and precision meet. “I tend to create very intuitively, but with large-scale projects I begin with three key flowers. They act as my anchors, based on height, length, diameter, shape, and texture.” The building blocks may be pragmatic. “I have used the same pieces of chicken wire for over seven years. It is endlessly reusable and allows me to shape and build without limits.”

The aesthetic is anything but ordinary. Bold asymmetry, overlooked blooms, and a love of the unconventional define the work. Jungle Utopia: “Something seen as kitsch, outdated, or unremarkable. I find beauty in what isn’t conventionally admired, and that tension is what gives the work its character.”

Trust the Process

Trust also plays a role. “Especially with large-scale installations, flexibility is key”, according to Jungle Utopia: “When you’re aiming for something immersive or sculptural, it’s important to start with a mood or feeling, not a fixed list of flowers or rigid references. The structure, the flow, even the energy of the design often evolve as it is being built. Give space for that evolution and the result will feel alive, not over-designed.”

Mastering the Timeline

That adaptability also applies under pressure. At one June wedding, a bride working with Jungle Utopia kept expanding her vision until only days before the event. The result was a nine-metre wave of calla lilies, supported by a custom iron structure and completed in just two weeks. “To meet those expectations, I always surround myself with supporting professionals such as carpenters, ironworkers and skilled fabricators. Any florist can create a calla lily wave, but I focus on impeccable technique and visual precision. That is what elevates the work.”
